Producing epoxy resins insulators and bushings, the technology can also be applied to encapsulate many parts from smoke alarms to fully insulated 25kv HT cables. Mekufa UK is also the last remaining manufacture of SRBP condenser bushings producing new and retrofit bushings for the electrical infrastructure worldwide.

Mekufa Ltd are experts in producing epoxy resin products. These high grade resins have long been used for high and medium voltage component manufacturing, but are also being used for a broader range of products, offering greater wear and insulation properties.

Mekufa has an excellent track record in vacuum casting. Over sixty years experience has made us the largest specialist UK manufacturer in the field. In the 1980s Mekufa introduced pressure gelation for the fast and cost effective production of a large series of components.

WHO WE ARE

Mekufa UK is an internationally renowned specialist in casting thermo-hardening plastics/resins, producing bushings and insulators for the switchgear and transformer industry. The company has built up an excellent reputation in this demanding market on the basis of more than 50 years experience, formerly under the name of Permali Insulators Ltd.

WHAT WE DO

Mekufa UK produces high quality products primarily for electrical distribution industry. We are customer-focussed and able to meet our customers requirements by using different manufacturing techniques. Mekufa UK has a range of material formulations and can also tailor formulations to customer product specification. In addition to this we produce SRBP bushings, encapsulated components and many other manufacturing processes.

OUR EXPERTISE

Mekufa customer’s benefit from our expertise and experience at all stages. We carefully review our customer’s product designs and using our CAD facility make suggestions for improvements where appropriate. Also by modifying the ingredients of the resin formulation, certain product properties can be enhanced enabling us to use the polymer most appropriate for the product.

CORE PRODUCTS

CAST RESIN

Having made thousands of insulation products and bushings for electrical distribution market we have many years of experience in all aspects of casting resin by traditional methods such as vacuum casting to more extensive methods like APG. The process can also be applied to filtration, sealing and electromotor manufacturing to mention but a few.

25KV TRACTION CABLES (formerly Permali Insulators)

The 25 kV HT cable assembly is a single length of HV cable terminated at each end. At one end it has a silicone rubber shedded insulation to satisfy the insulation performance of an outdoor insulated component. At the other end, a cast epoxy or an EPDM housing termination which interfaces with the HV transformer termination and is protected by its design.

ENCAPSULATION (Potting)

Encapsulation in a thermoset resin can dramatically improve the performance and reliability of electrical and electronic devices. Effective encapsulation requires the correct choice of material from the thousands available combined with the highest standards of production control. Mekufa UK have extensive experience in all areas of encapsulation and are suppliers to a diverse range of industries. Castings range from a few grams to over 30 Kg typically in Epoxy, Urethane or Silicone materials.

CAPMARK MACHINERY

This division was originally founded to provide expertise in process automation for the wire and cable industry. Initial projects included pay-off, take-up and tensioning devices for use in cable, wire and optical fibre production.

SRBP (Paper wound Bushings)

Condenser bushings are manufactured from phenolic resin coated paper providing a high degree of thermal stability and low dielectric loss characteristics combined with good mechanical strength and resistance to water. Thin metallic layers, which are inserted during manufacture, provide conductive layers to control both axial and radial stresses.

Post Insulators & Standard Bushings

Offering a full range of post insulators sometimes referred to as ‘stand off insulators’, from 1kv to 60 kv for indoor use, we also produce a limited range of outdoor post insulators using cycloaliphatic epoxy resin. Standard bushings are available from a wide range of configurable tooling negating the need of expensive tooling.
