On the horizon is our new Cygnus Underwater ultrasonic thickness gauge, a remarkable leap forward from its predecessor. Packed with intelligent new features, it's meticulously designed to operate flawlessly in various conditions, delivering unparalleled precision and usability that you can trust.

This clever new tool is designed specifically for professional divers. As we've come to expect with Cygnus UT gauges, it is engineered for top-tier durability, accuracy, and usability. It can withstand harsh subsea environments, providing swift and accurate ultrasonic thickness measurements.

What's new?

In the rapidly evolving industry, the original hand-held Cygnus Underwater gauge has stood the test of time, maintaining its position despite its age. However, with the soaring popularity of the Cygnus Dive and its array of additional features, we recognised the need to revamp this torch-style gauge, which has its own loyal following. The new Underwater gauge has combined the best elements of both gauges while incorporating some exciting new features to create an innovative and versatile tool.

Beyond its exceptional new look and ergonomic design, the most apparent advancement for the new Underwater is the jump to a multi-mode gauge. The original Multiple-Echo mode is still the best method for verifying accurate through-coat measurements as specified by Classification Societies. The Echo-Echo mode is ideal for measuring heavily corroded metals through thin coatings (i.e., coated metals with heavy back-wall corrosion), while the Single-Echo mode is perfect for measuring uncoated metals with heavy front and/or back-wall corrosion. The new Cygnus Underwater now offers a versatile solution for varying levels of corrosion and various materials, as well as through-coat measurements, giving you peace of mind in any inspection scenario.

The new Cygnus Underwater gauge displays instant results on a large, crisp colour LCD screen - highly visible, even in low-visibility waters, and has also gained a Depth Sensor - a brand-new feature to Cygnus' subsea range. The depth sensor provides divers with a live, accurate depth display as one of the four views on the gauge's front screen, along with basic (measurement readings), live A-Scan, and datalogging views. Its real-time clock enables the date and time to be tagged to measurement points. Moreover, this new diver-held gauge benefits from Auto-Set Gain, which optimises the probe's gain settings to ensure continuous good probe performance.

Ship and Offshore Applications

The new Cygnus Underwater is built for applications in the toughest subsea environments, including:

- Offshore Platforms and Mobile Offshore Units (MOUs)

- Ship Class Surveys via UWILD and IWS

- Subsea equipment, such as underwater manifolds and pipelines

- Underwater structures in shallow water

This multi-mode Underwater gauge is ideal for measuring through coatings and heavily corroded metals. It is hugely beneficial at sea, where deep seas' harsh, abrasive wave action causes some of the most severe corrosion.

Ship hulls suffer corrosion not only below water but also above the waterline due to exceptionally corrosive deposits from evaporating seawater spray. The Cygnus Underwater gauge saves marine vessels covering needless miles to reach a dry dock and experiencing downtime by facilitating UWILD or IWS Class Surveys while staying en route, providing a time-saving and cost-effective solution.

Where corrosion is a high risk, protective coatings are quick to follow.

Ships and offshore structures are often coated, yet not 100% protected, and therefore still need testing. Although not new to Cygnus Underwater, the Multiple-Echo mode remains the best method for auto-verified, accurate and through-coat measurements as specified by Class Societies. Paired with Cygnus' Deep-Coat function, which ignores coatings up to 20mm thick, this is the optimal and cost-effective solution for coated vessels and offshore structures.

Marine Applications

Coastlines and inland waterways stretch across continents, some of which are enormous. Their infrastructure requires regular inspection, repair, and maintenance (IRM) for optimum safety. This includes:

- Civil engineering (i.e. bridges and pipelines)

- Canal locks and dams

- Marine structures (i.e. piers and jetties)

With such diversity in the nature of these structures, the new Underwater gauge is explicitly designed with three quick function keys and an intuitive menu for the simplest and fastest operation so divers can focus on navigating unfamiliar environments safely.
