Yorkshire Forward, part of the Scarborough Borough Council asked Woodscape to provide street furniture as part of the regeneration of the harbour, taking it from being perceived as divided, run-down and road-dominated to a place for lingering, enjoying the views and attracting inward investment.
Woodscape designed innovative hardwood seating, a fisherman’s lock-up and bus stop for the town’s historic fishing harbour. Whilst being mindful of the need to accommodate some major uses and withstand the coastal environment. The large ‘loafer’ seats are widely considered as sculptural as well as functional objects. Benches varied in length from 5m to 20m and were supplied in modular kit form for on-site assembly. Seats were constructed from FSC certified Naturally Very Durable Hardwood and specially engineered components in Marine Grade Stainless Steel.
The new look harbour has already attracted investment with a number of restaurants and eateries taking the opportunity to offer their customers a table with a stunning view.
