The results of Vending Paris 2008 session have confirmed the growing interest for the vending industry in this time of important changes in consumption habits.

The study we led on the subject highlighted various interesting trends for the 2010 session.

70% of the meals taken outside cost the consumer less than 10€, drinks included (of which 45% is takeaway), and 1 meal over 3 during work time is not taken at the table. This trend towards food-on-the-go is more and more present in France and opens up real opportunities on the vending market. For the moment, this market only attracts 12% of the consumers (vs supermarkets or bakeries).

Companies on the food market should now work on their offer and adapt their products to consumer demands: product freshness, packaging and quality are key factors in the purchasing decision.

Finally, price remains a key element, in view of more traditional channels (supermarkets…), usually less expensive.

Vending really is an answer to the customer expectations and should now evolve and communicate better to appeal to the consumer: new products in terms of vending machines, issues linked to the means of payment, offer more varied and adapted to the demand for healthy food, new eating places… All of these are stakes that the vending industry has to face, but they are also great development opportunities for this market.
