The Specialist Buyers Guide for Rail Supplies and Services
During each day of Railtex 2019, leading industry figures will deliver a keynote speech focusing on some of the opportunities and challenges facing the railway industry.
Tuesday 14 May 11:50 - Seminar Theatre
Baroness Rona Fairhead, Minister of State at the Department for International Trade, will open the show at 10:30 and then at 11:50 deliver a keynote speech looking at the railway as a business, rather than as a mode of transport. It is big business, and there are plans to double exports over the next few years.
Wednesday 15 May 11:50 - Seminar Theatre
Gordon Wakeford, the head of Siemens Mobility in the UK, will speak at 11:50 on the second show day. He is also co-chair of the Rail Supply Group and as such, working with a team that included Philip Hoare of Atkins and Anna Delvecchio of Amey (who will be part of the show’s opening ceremony), he was instrumental in developing the Rail Sector Deal.
Thursday 16 May 11:50 - Seminar Theatre
Network Rail chief executive Andrew Haines has recently announced that he will be moving the company further into devolution, pushing most responsibilities out to five regions and 13 routes. One of the areas affected will be the Group Digital Railway initiative, which will become much more decentralised. The man responsible for overseeing that is new Digital Railway managing director Stuart Calvert, and he will be speaking on the last day of the show.
Thursday 16 May 13:50 - Seminar Theatre
Andy McDonald is not only MP for Middlesbrough, he is also Shadow Secretary of State for Transport. He will close the three-day seminar programme, speaking on Labour’s plans for rail – a most-interesting way to end the UK’s major rail industry show.
