To complement the standard range of kiosk keyboards RAFI GB has introduced a range of stand-alone panel mounted trackballs designed for hostile environments.
The trackball panel utilises RAFI's RK90 discrete-click, tactile switch system with solid stainless steel keytops. The keytops are held captive behind a stainless steel front plate to stop inadvertent removal and the switch contacts are protected against impact by their own built in 'shock absorbers'. A second metal plate is secured behind the keys preventing any over-travel of the keys caused by excessive force and protecting the switch and electronic assemblies.
To enable easy integration into metal, plastic, or wooden kiosks six M5 x 25mm long studs are provided for panel mounting the unit. Connection to the host is via a 2 metre long straight data cable.
The 38mm diameter stainless steel trackball uses precision stainless steel components plus high-grade injection moulded plastics and superior optical encoders to create a high quality device. Sealing is provided by a full floating, self-lubricating PTFE seal providing effortless cursor tracking whilst still maintaining a sealing level to IP65 when stationary. To help protect the trackball seal from knives, screwdrivers etc. a pressed stainless steel bezel is fitted.
The units are also available with IP68 Optical trackballs.
The RAFI flat data entry panels are protected against dirt, dust and water splashes by a polyester overlay which makes it easy to clean. They are therefore especially recommended for use in workshops and laboratories as well as for medical and food handling applications which have high demands on hygiene.
The RAFI RF15 short-travel keys provide an excellent tactile feedback for the keyboard. In combination with the embossed areas over the keys, high operating comfort and reliable data entry are achieved.
The RAFI RF15 switch is produced with gold/gold contacts and offer LED indicators to signal on/off status.
The keyboards are available housed or as panel mount enabling easy integration into a range of application using the eight M3x25mm long studs provided. Connection to the host is via a 2M long data cable.
The keyboards can be supplied with USB or PS/2 interfaces and with various pointing devices including touch-pads and trackballs.
RAFI have developed a range of kiosk keyboards for use in the most hostile environments. Our stainless steel rugged keyboards are used in kiosks sited in unsupervised areas or for extra protection anywhere. Keyboards are available in both panel mount and housed versions* offering the combined benefits of extra robust construction, enhanced data input and attractive appearance. The keyboards utilise all stainless steel front end components to resist sustained attacks from vandals as well as accidental damage such as spilt drinks.
By removing all unnecessary keys and adding browser-specific ones together with the integration of a high quality trackball, RAFI has developed a keyboard customised for interactive kiosk applications. The key layout is reduced in size but retains the familiar QWERTY key-block area. Function specific keys such as [www.], [.co], [.uk] and [.com] have been incorporated into the keyboard for the convenience of e-kiosk users. A browser mouse button has also been added to enable easy scrolling of viewed pages.
The keyboard utilises RAFI’s RK90 discrete-click tactile switch system with solid stainless steel or optional black hard anodised aluminium key-caps. The specially designed key-caps are secured by a protective front plate and the PCB and switches are also protected by an internal support plate preventing switch over-travel.
Twelve M5 x 25mm long studs are provided on our units for panel-mounting. For the housed version, blind bushes are incorporated in the base to secure the keyboard to a desk or plinth. Holes are provided in the base to drain off any liquid spillage.
Connection to the host is via a straight cable (approx. 2m) terminated in 6 pin mini colour coded DIN plugs marked keyboard and mouse or a USB-B socket.
Track-ball: The 38mm diameter track-ball is available as a solid stainless steel or high quality phenolic ball with mechanical or optical encoder. There is also the option of an illuminated ball in various colours for an attractive eye catching option. Sealing for the mechanical track-ball version is provided by a full floating, self lubricating PTFE seal providing effortless cursor tracking yet maintaining a sealing level to IP65 when stationary. A support plate prevents the track-ball from being pushed through the keyboard.
